The Melba Wright McNichols scholarship was formed by MSAKC, following her passing, to honor Melba and her love of music and music theater.

This scholarship covers the virtual/online curriculum charge by MSAKC to Edgenuity for a 12-month subscription. The scholarship also waives any monthly service fees/tutoring fees. The student chosen to receive this scholarship will:

This scholarship covers the virtual/online curriculum charge by MSAKC to Edgenuity for a 12-month subscription. The scholarship also waives any monthly service fees/tutoring fees. The student chosen to receive this scholarship will:
- apply to the Metropolitan School of the Arts virtual program
- will have their current school records sent so that their academic schedule may be constructed
- MSAKC has the ability to provide a rigorous academic curriculum ranging from on grade level, honors, and AP at the high school level.
- MSAKC will provide arts-related credit for classes taken in the community - here are some examples:
- Full-time or part-time student at the KC Ballet School,
- Taking lessons at a local dance studio or local musician (City in Motion, School of Rock,
- Member of the KC Youth Symphony, Youth Chorus of Kansas City, or other local performance group
- Taking lessons by professional artists (art, photography, theater, musical theater) in our local organizations (Coterie Theater, Culture House, Kansas City Young Audiences, Lyric Opera, Stage Right, Starlight, Theater for Young America, etc.) as well as performance (Theater in the Park, Starlight, etc.)
- Professional providers will need to be portfolio certified in order to award high school credit
- will have the ability to structure their schedule to meet their needs: one class at a time or all for the year. Once the student has completed a course, he/she will be able to work on additional classes or electives.
- will receive academic credits upon completion of the class and will be placed on their academic transcript.
- will have the opportunity to receive an MSAKC high school diploma upon meeting our graduation requirements.
- be eligible for renewal for each subsequent year if demonstrating academic success.
