ONLINE/VIRTUAL PROGRAM FOR 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR
What we have found through the 2020 pandemic, and the shift in education, is that our VPA students, often introverted, had great success in the virtual learning environment. They were able to focus on their academics and do their work when it was most convenient for them. As we learned more about community spread of the virus, many art communities found a way for our students to attend rehearsals safely while adhering to the CDC and local health department guidelines.
Families are now looking for a personalized approach that fits their student’s learning style, flexible schedule and their favored social and physical environment for learning. MSAKC is an educational provider that offers a complete curriculum for middle and high school from average ability through Advanced Placement (AP). Our online curriculum provider is Edginuity/Imagine - a nationally recognized provider that is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancEd) Accreditation and NCAA Clearinghouse for athletes.
Students complete academic work online while also earning high school credit for participation in their respective performing art discipline. MSAKC will portfolio certify your instructor(s) and award credit based upon hours completed and a satisfactory report from the instructor. For example, a student enrolled in the KC Ballet day school would be able to work on online academic work and receive credit for their daily ballet classes. Other opportunities include: after school/evening dance or voice lessons and recitals, participation in local performing art productions (Coterie Theater, Culture House, Triology, etc), or participation in community performance groups (KC Youth Symphony, for example).
Metropolitan School of the Arts will also be a traditional secondary school that, when fully implemented, will be a seven-year private school of choice in metropolitan Kansas City. The goal is to provide students with a rigorous academic program in an arts-based traditional school. The virtual school is an educational opportunity that compliments the traditional “brick and mortar” school to fit the needs of the non-traditional students.
Some students who may attend MSAKC Virtual include:
College Bound MSAKC will offer educational opportunities that are designed to meet students wishing to attend college. Students in the virtual school will learn valuable skills in time management. Students play a greater role in their learning and their academic success than they would in most traditional schools. Students learn to manage multiple assignments, create their own school of daily lessons and assignments, and ensure that teachers are aware of questions or challenges they may experience. This experience prepares them well for the same type of discipline needed in college.
Artists and Performers: More than ever, students are engaged in experiences as professional actors, musicians, and other performers. This is often difficult when enrolled in a traditional school and trying to meet school district attendance and assessment requirements. Students enrolled in the virtual school will also have the opportunity to earn high school fine arts credits through their time, practice and productions within the community when the teacher is an approved adjunct instructor.
Homeschooling Families: As their children grow older, homeschool families are often challenged with finding a challenging, advanced curriculum without feeling like they need to be an expert in every subject. We offer a recognized curriculum that will lead to an official high school transcript. This can facilitate enrollment to post-secondary education opportunities and scholarships by having the work completed validated by an educational setting.
