Once MSAKC is opened in August, 2024, we will spend the first several years implementing our full 5 conservatories. Ideally, we intend to organize each art conservatory in to a small learning community. The students will be with the same care academic teachers for their high school program. This allows students to develop strong relationships with staff and staff get to know their students strengths, weaknesses. Teachers will also be able to infuse the arts in to their respective curriculum. For example, a social studies teacher in the music conservatory can focus on how different periods in history have influenced music.
MSAKC also would like to investigate becoming an IB (International Baccalaureate) school. We would like to implement the IB Career-related Program (IBCP). This unique program provides the rigorous IB curriculum and allows integration of the career-related fields in the visual/performing arts. IB offers courses in: dance, literature and performance, music, theater, film, and visual arts, art history, and world arts and culture.
Students would complete 2 IB courses, a reflective project, personal and professional skills, and service components. These blend in perfectly with our intent to provide our students with arts-related internships during their senior year. Student scoring at a certain level on their end-of-course IB exams may also receive college credit by many post-secondary institutions.
The IB program is recognized internationally. Our students will be fully prepared for whatever the next step will be following graduation - advanced studies at a conservatory or college/university.
